Lakes, rivers, torrents: water in all its forms has always been a challenge for the painter. Its transparency, its move, its reflections are all challenges to take up. Either with oil or with watercolours, the landscapes representing lakes or rivers are a constant of landscape painting which endeavoured itself to render all the effects.

The water does not have any characteristic form; instead she takes them all: she can be clear and transparent but also dark and deep. What a pleasure to see and listen to the quick and transparent water of a mountain stream jumping through the rocs, clearing a way in the mountains pastures. Up on a bridge or from the bank, who has never been caught by the sight of a river crossing peacefully the city? There is almost no town without a river, each has its nature, some are more or less transparent, more or less lazy, but all have their own charm.
